Europe Prominent Among Foreign Language Film Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced by shortlist from which the final five nominations will be chosen on January 25 for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

The nine films, of the original 66 submissions, that will continue their march towards the prize are: Rachid Bouchareb’s Outside the Law (France/Algeria/Belgium/Tunisia/Italy), Denis Villeneuve’s Scorched (Canada/France), Susanne Bier’s In a Better World (Denmark), Yorgos LanthimosDogtooth (Greece), Tetsuya Nakashima’s Confessions (Japan), Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful (Mexico/Spain), Oliver Schmitz’s Life, Above All (Germany/South Africa), Icíar Bollaín’s Even the Rain (Spain/France) and Simple Simon by Andreas Ohman (Sweden).
